*** By Daniel Clowes. This is the graphic novel (or, rather, collection of episodes) on which the wonderful 2001 movie of the same name is based. This book gets points for just about everything. It's well drawn, the characterizations are great, it's funny, it's coherent, it's intelligent, it's creative... what else can I say, really? The movie did take some liberties with plot and characters, but I think it remained faithful in spirit. Reading the book and seeing the movie are not the same experience, however; I recommend you do both! And if anyone knows any other comic book series in a similar vein, lemme know... Here here! Great stuff this comic, as was the movie. The movie isn't showing anywhere near us, but it may be near you, so try to find it or just wait for the video release. The comic, of course, is always available.
