Malcolm X
*** By Alex Haley and Malcolm X. This is the autobiography they worked on together, which was published not long after Malcolm X was killed. This book really opened my eyes. I really knew nothing much about him except that he was the antithesis of Martin Luther King Jr., violent where MLK was non-violent. That is a common misconception, and it's a shame that you have to read this book to know that. Malcolm X called himself the angriest black man in America. He was angry because he felt that black people have been dehumanized, that they have been brainwashed (he uses that word over and over) into thinking they're not as good as white people. Malcolm X made it his life's work to raise black people up, to get them to learn about their heritage, and take pride in it. There are many things to be learned from this book, way too many for me to list here. Read it. He had a beautiful and terrible life, and everyone can learn a lot from him.Posted by Joe on February 10, 2002 09:20 PM
