There's a ton to write about since we've moved to Chicago, but let's start with a mundane quickie.
Lisa and I went to Berta's, a bar here in Ottawa, IL this evening, after her brother's softball game. After struggling to find anything on the menu that was both not fried and meat-free, I tried to order a drink.
As usual, they carded me. I still don't have an Illinois ID, so I presented my California driver's license.
After several seconds of careful study, they asked if I had another picture ID with my birth date on it. Of course, I didn't.
Thus, they would not serve me alcohol.
No big loss really, but I wonder how long this will keep happening. Obviously I should look at my youthful appearance as a blessing, and I do, but (now at least) it amuses me more than anything. How many people under 21 do you know with grey hair?
Hey Joe--
How's Chicago treating you, other than like a child? New Orleans is hot and smelly--just how I like it. Oh yeah.
OK gotta go. Drop me a line sometime.
Do you have anyone to play with in Chicago?
Love,
