:: Liana and Ralph ::

Congratulations to our friends Liana and Ralph on their wedding! We went to the greater Detroit area this weekend for the great event, and they are off on their honeymoon now. This photo is from the unity candle lighting portion of the service.

Read on for one more photo of me as a muppet, and a bit more story.

Lisa and I were glad to get out of town for a little bit, even if we had just been out the week before. Sometimes, every day off work is a good one. We packed Carly off to Lucky Dog and drove off Friday morning. We stopped in Kalamazoo briefly to pick up Lisa’s bridesmaid dress, then it was off to Detroit.

We had two and a half more hours than we need to get to Detroit. The first was eaten up because of the time zone change (duh — she remembered, I didn’t), another half hour by the torrential rain, including hail (a first for me in the midwest, although it’s pretty common here I guess), that stopped us because visibility got so bad. We made do. Once that cleared up a little, the crazy Friday afternoon and construction-related traffic dissolved whatever leftover time we had. We took an alternate route through the Michigan countryside, and got to Detroit barely in time for the rehearsal.

I’m not going to detail the rest of the weekend, but it was great to see our friends so happy. Lisa and I performed our respective duties (hers was bridesmaid, as I said; mine were videographer and usher) with honor, and it went very well. Of course, we were also glad to be back, and pick up our hyperactive fiend. We spent a couple hours with Brian and Kim, who gave us some happy news as we checked out their new apartment, just a mile and a half north of us.

One more thing from the weekend. Here’s a shot of the Motel 6 we stayed. How would you feel if you drove in to the parking lot of your motel and saw the second-floor balcony being propped up with boards and plywood? We thought of the Happiness Hotel from the Great Muppet Caper. Lisa took this picture of me doing a big arms thing in front of the Happiness Motel.
