I was just about to leave for a rehearsal when I looked at the weather forecast on Weather Underground:

We never saw 30 feet of snow in New Hampshire, let alone 1000. Lisa saw snow on Mt. Tamalpais this morning, but I didn’t think a blizzard of this magnitude was in store. Wow!
Hey, cool. A jewelry store opened across the street from us. Naturally thinking jewelry makes us think of certain things.
Until you look at the neon sign hanging in the window.
A big smile with two big shining gold teeth.
Then you look in the window and see the other sign.
“Broadway Gold Teeth”
Ewwwwww….
I’ve been really busy lately. I have a whole bunch of work that I either need or want to do for almost all my clients. I’ll get through it, but I haven’t been this busy in a while. The whole slowed economy thing is making me hypersensitive about making sure all my clients are happy, and trying to keep myself valuable to everyone I’m doing work for. Yikes. Work is good, and I’m glad to have it, but it’s challenging.
Fortunately, Lisa and I have started working on projects together. There are two sites so far that she’s doing the design for, with me coding all the stuff that’s too geeky to interest her, and doing any usability-type stuff. This is a cool thing. She’s good. You’ll see. Oh wait, you already have.
I’ve been reading some more stuff on digital photography. My mom gave me some money to buy a lens or two with, so I’m inspecting teleconverters and wide-angle converters. And, of course, there’s always things like Noah Grey’s utterly beautiful work, which you can now buy to support his budding photography studio.
If I can wield photographic skills like him, I’ll be a happy camper. Meanwhile, there are other photographers to contend with.
The Jazzschool is a Bay Area treasure. It just moved into a new space that I got to check out on Monday evening. The space is wonderful, and it’s also nice to see that the school is getting some coverage in the local media.

One more thing. Lisa and I went to the New Pickle Circus yesterday, and I have a few pictures. They are based on Chinese acrobatics, so there’s lots of tumbling and feats of strength and balance. No animal training, juggling, or magic to speak of. Great fun.
To see the pictures, read more.
I never got around to writing anything exciting about our trip, but I will mention some highlights for posterity:
Once in a while I find something on the web that seems truly worthwhile. A good friend of mine, Archibald Wolfe, sent me an email about a photographer that he really enjoys, who was a mentor to him. After browsing his site, I have to say I’m impressed. I hope you’ll enjoy his site as much as I did.
His name is Harvey Smeewhacker.
We got back from a long trip all over the country yesterday (which is to say, Monday—the day doesn’t end until I go to bed, dammit). Lots of running around with our families, lots of fun with airport security, lots of fun, if not a whole lot of relaxation.
I took a bunch of pictures, some of which I’ll be posting pretty soon. I really got some good use of that digital camera, taking something like 150 photos. I’ve never shot so many in a two week span.
I will write some more about our break, but I’m going to wait to do that until I’m a little more caught up on work and playing drums. Two weeks without much playing is tough. Fortunately I have some gigs coming up to get me up and running again.
