One more thing.
Why do people feel the need to use Java for navigation? Why why why? Java on MacOS X is supposed to be among the fastest anywhere, yet that site makes my machine crawl, all for little bits of graphics to "help" me navigate their site. Arg!
I ask you: why would anyone choose to make their web site load 5 or 10 times slower when there are other, easier ways (both for them and for me) to accomplish exactly the same thing?
Okay, I feel better. Time to go to bed.
Oh wait, we don't have one yet.
Time to go to futon-mattress-on-the-floor.
And melt.
My friend Michael, who is responsible for the extreme drumming exercises hosted here, is not only a drummer. He is also a great lover of comics.
He has given me some great recommendations, has great taste, and has now started a weblog about comics. It is already very informative and interesting, and has been around barely a week. Check it out.
There's a ton to write about since we've moved to Chicago, but let's start with a mundane quickie.
Lisa and I went to Berta's, a bar here in Ottawa, IL this evening, after her brother's softball game. After struggling to find anything on the menu that was both not fried and meat-free, I tried to order a drink.
As usual, they carded me. I still don't have an Illinois ID, so I presented my California driver's license.
After several seconds of careful study, they asked if I had another picture ID with my birth date on it. Of course, I didn't.
Thus, they would not serve me alcohol.
No big loss really, but I wonder how long this will keep happening. Obviously I should look at my youthful appearance as a blessing, and I do, but (now at least) it amuses me more than anything. How many people under 21 do you know with grey hair?
