Lis finished her tour yesterday. Fifty states; 17,000 miles; sixty days.
Congratulations, Lis!
Now get some rest. And give your good buddy Ardie her car back.
I'd like to see a little bit more of this. Just what would we (and by we, I mean the people who are driving this war machine) do if we got rid of the current Iraqi regime? Oh, I remember, that's not important. We will magically be more secure. I keep forgetting about magic.
I'm hoping for many things. I'm hoping my brother, who just took a job as a security guard for his apartment complex in Maryland, will be safe.
I'm hoping we will manage to lurch farther away instead of closer to a war, despite certain speeches trying to convince us that war is a good idea. As I read more about Vietnam, it feels like a lot of the same mistakes being made again.
I think it's interesting that Bush quotes JFK, from the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The important difference, of course, is that we didn't go to war then. It was narrowly avoided, but we did avoid it. If I had more faith in our current leadership, I'd believe that even now we could still avoid what JFK called "an unpredictable war" (that's a quote from this book, which I'm now reading). I still hold out hope.
I'm also hoping for good weather in Michigan next May. Can you guess why?
Things like The Ig Nobel Awards remind me that most of humanity is bizarre and wonderful. Thank goodness.
