This afternoon, Lisa and I watched our friend Morgan on Jeopardy. He was, in a word, TheMan. The show was, for someone rooting for Morgan, the perfect game show. He started out pretty quickly, amassing a substantial lead going into the second round. So we got to cheer him on as he mopped the floor with the other two contestants.
But the drama was heightened greatly in Double Jeopardy, when everyone caught right up. The previous day’s champion, who barely answered five questions in the first round, took a $1000 lead over Morgan by the end of Double Jeopardy. We were, as they say, on the edges of our seats.
Morgan got the Final Jeopardy question right, and the champ did not (the other guy was way behind going in, alas), so he won. It was really fun and exciting to see a cool, smart guy I know win, at least for a day, on a TV game show. And Jeopardy, no less, a game show I used to like watching growing up.
Don’t miss Morgan’s website, of course, but in particular his wagering strategies for Jeopardy. Morgan does like them mathematics.
These shows were taped two or three months ago, but I don’t know what’s going to happen yet. He’ll be on again on Monday, so we’ll be watching and hoping he wins again. I think he might.
We spent a time afternoon and evening in the company of new friends today. Not completely new friends, but people I’ve only spent time with maybe two or three times before tonight, and never for quite as long. We talked, played cards, ate tasty food and a lot of cookies, and generally had an entirely too-fun and too-wholesome good time.
I also had the dubious honor of restoring their computer to more or less working condition. Fixing up a Windows computer is not something I’m especially good at, but I knew enough to be helpful. I just hope that playing Skip-Bo (aka Cat and Mouse, aka Spite and Malice) while messing with the computer doesn’t lead to ill effects down the road for them.
I’m a little surprised that the weather actually improved following my grousing about it the other day. The past couple days have been beautiful, and I took the opportunity today to ride my bike to a client’s office.
I remember when I was younger I’d hear my dad talking about his “clients”, and it would sound really important, and kind of mysterious. He never did or said anything in particular to make it sound like anything to be noted, but somehow that word always felt big. Of course, now I’ve had clients of my own pretty much since I finished university, and I don’t have to see the word as so weird, or much of a big deal. Not any bigger deal than being “an adult”.
Just what we needed! Sixty seconds of rain!
After our trip back east last month, I thought I would have been happy never to see another drop of rain. Well, it’s been hot and humid since we got back, and I can’t wait to have a real rain storm and dry this air out. So far, it’s just been little dribbly drizzly things.
Carly and I are without a certain someone for the next day, which is always tough for us. We always manage by keeping very busy and having parties twenty-four hours a day. I usually make the dog by the liquor, since I always get carded.
I’m looking forward to playing tonight — it’s been a long time since I’ve played with these guys, and I miss it.
