:: Dayswimming ::

Today, for the first time since moving to Chicago, we swam in Lake Michigan. A couple good friends came by and picked us up, and we drove to the lake. It’s not very far — we could have walked, but with the possibility of ice cream or other edibles from parts afar, we drove.

I’m not much of a beach person. I get stir crazy lying around in the sun doing nothing but listening to my skin cook. I need to be occupied, whether it’s throwing frisbee, swimming, or running around, I need to be doing something. Today we threw frisbee and went swimming, so I didn’t have anything to complain about. The weather was beautiful, the company was good, the beach wasn’t overly crowded… there was an older couple there in oddly skimpy bikini-like swimwear that wouldn’t have looked very good on someone half their age, but other than that, never was heard a discouraging word.

We still haven’t had any substantial rain in weeks, but at least it’s cooled off for a few days. This three-day weekend has been wonderful. Tomorrow we’ll be meeting up with some other friends we haven’t seen in a while for a nice veggie-friendly barbecue. We might see fireworks. This is the kind of summer I could enjoy fully.
