The first snow of the season fell today. Around 11, it was coming down steadily for maybe five minutes, then the sun came out almost immediately. The grass had a pleasant dusting that was promptly melted away. And now it’s falling again. I guess today will be a day of squalls.
Last month was a very busy month. I spent more time out of town than I did at home. We went on a vacation in Michigan (here be pictures) for a week, ending in picking up Carly from surgery. The first night back was rough, we didn’t sleep much with Carly getting up all the time thinking she had to go out and just being uncomfortable, but after that she made a quick and complete recovery.
A few days after we got back I went back to New Hampshire to attend an old friend’s wedding. I wasn’t sure what to expect; this was the first wedding of a friend from high school in years (and only the second one I’ve attended). I thought either I’d see some of people I hadn’t seen in a long time, or I wouldn’t know anyone and feel out of place. I didn’t know anyone, but the people I was seated with were all really friendly, so it ended up being a really fun afternoon and evening.
Back to Illinois for one day, then I was off to New York to record with Girlyman for their next record, due early next year. I had promised them that we’d get everything done in just a couple days, and I made good on my promise. Because of the way scheduling their studio time worked out, I was there for a couple days of just hanging around. I took advantage of it, eating a lot of delicious, cheap food, and hanging out with a good friend from CMU who also lives in Brooklyn (just a few blocks away!).
Everything we did was enjoyable, all excellent reasons to travel. That said, I’m only too glad to be home now without any commitments to travel anywhere for a while. With the coming of winter, a lot more time spent at home is inevitable, but it’s especially welcome for me now having been away so much.
The sun has come out yet again. Imagine if this happened every time it snowed.
