Where does the time go, anyway?

This week, I played a gig with Von that went reasonably well. He was very "mellow", and said he was more energized to play than he had been in a long while. I sort of think he told me that last time I played the gig, which makes me think that he's either just being nice to me, or he likes the uncertainty of having me there and what that does. The new never gets old I guess, especially when you're 83.

The next night I was out again, this time helping a friend record a concert for a project he's working on. Ken Vandermark and Paal Nilssen-Love played a duo set at The Hideout. It was a nice, intimate setting for some interesting music. I'm getting more exposure to the experimental/avant-garde/whatever jazz community through some different connections, and I'm enjoying it.

Then there's the business with The Horse. We're loading up on shows and rehearsal time, getting ready to play a couple very large festivals, and several smaller ones, this summer. It's so much work that I've had to all but cut my commitment to ITQ, although that recording is pretty much done and nearly ready for release (just need some album art and a few last minute tweaks to the music). But anyway, the country band is going crazy, guns blazing or whatever metaphor you like. We have our work cut out for us, but I think we'll do very well, hopefully turn some heads.

Then there's that work thing, which is also very busy. I'm working with a library, a local small industrial business, a bunch of artists and musicians, and subcontracting on some larger short-term work. Busy busy busy.

And I'm also trying to learn to play some piano again.

Amazingly, there is still some time that is made for just the three of us. I'd rather be busy than bored, and I'm definitely not bored. Mostly I'm trying to keep up with all these things, and looking forward to seeing those who have traveled afar when they return next month. Next month! My goodness.
