I just finished Amy Tan’s book The Hundred Secret Senses tonight. It has a very well-made mix of emotions, is written very clearly, has great characterization, and is generally a real pleasure. This is the first of her books that I’ve read, and I’m going to have to track down more.
One thing that was very nice is that the book even has a proper ending. It doesn’t just stop, or run out of pages the way some contemporary fiction does. It’s a story with a beginning, a middle, and an actual, satisfying ending.
The only complaint I have is that the characters were sometimes a little too believable, and I had a little too easy a time hearing them in my head, arguing with each other. Thanks a lot for that, Amy Tan!
I'm really glad you liked it. :-)
